See the good in others

Child abuse, abortion, aggression, you name it, it happens day in and day out. Whether we realize it or not, or do something about it. As parents and caretakers, we should protect our own kind, irrespective of whether a child belongs to us. Children are entrusted to us. Therefore, we are bound to guard and guide every child alike. Crime against children are crimes against the voiceless, but we choose to look the other way ; turning a blink eye is what we do best.

Imagine a heart beating ever so happily, never thinking that the one person it was slowly bonding with, who is supposed to be its protector, is capable of such hideous crime. Imagine yourself in that position, being robbed of life even before you are given the chance to experience it.

Life is a gift, given to us for a purpose, for a reason, yet at times we take it for granted. Who are we to decide whether we should stop a heart from beating? Is there a difference between that heartbeat and that of a man?

Society, which acts like the judge of all, is good at labellings and isolating women, especially unwed mothers trying their best to hold their life together. If only these mothers were allowed to think for themselves. If only they are given a chance, I believe they would make the right decision for themselves and their unborn children.

Yet, this is impossible when family members are at their throats. It is the norm for us to look the other way when problems do not concern us. But little do we realize that our actions play a part when desperate mothers take drastic actions to overcome their problems. When a life is sucked out or a baby is abandoned, we are all ears and quick to judge.

Through we live in this age of modernization, we have to bear in mind that we are a society enriched by traditional and culture values. Values that we find hard to bend or trade, accepting unwed mothers with open arms.

Hence, as we continue to clean up the environment and go green, let us also clean up our act. For only as we begin to love ourselves, can we begin to see the good in others and begin to love one another. This will bring the happiness and contentment that make us feel at one with nature.
